This week we are spotlighting our Corporate Safety Director, Robert Nugent. Robert is 23 years old and married to Cathy Nugent. He has recently been awarded several awards for his outstanding work towards keeping Superior Rigging and Erecting Co. a safe working environment, including the AISC Safety Award, SC&RA Project Safety Award, and the SC&RA Crane & Rigging Safety Award.

Robert joined the Superior Rigging and Erecting team in March of 2016 after graduating from Texas A&M University with a Bachelor’s degree in Construction Science and minors in Architecture and Business. As the Corporate Safety Director, Robert oversees the overall health, safety and well-being of the SRE workforce and workplace. He has contributed to lowering the incident rate by more than 300%, achieving outstanding commitment to the safety culture. Way to go, Robert!

When Robert isn’t winning safety awards, you can find him hunting, fishing or lying back on a beach somewhere.

Robert’s advice to us: Don’t be afraid to ask questions. Never conduct a task that you feel is unsafe. Plan and communicate at all times.

Favorite quote: “Stress is a choice” – Robert O’Neill, US Navy Seal

Diabetes is a horrible disease that affects millions around the world. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, in the U.S. alone, there are 29.1 million people who suffer from this illness. That comes out to be about one person out of every 11. Every day, almost 5,000 people learn they have diabetes. Even worse, one out of every four of those who do have diabetes do not know they have it, which means the disease is advancing very quickly.

Another 86 million people in the U.S. have pre-diabetes, which could develop into full diabetes within five years if they don’t change their diet and activity level.

The disease can increase the risk of a number of different health complications:

  • Blindness
  • Loss of legs, feet, or toes
  • Kidney failure
  • Stroke
  • Heart disease

Those who don’t realize they have diabetes or aren’t managing it correctly may also fall into a diabetic coma, which can result in death.

What Can You Do About It?

Diabetes claims the lives of thousands of people every year and leaves many more in pain or unable to work. Here at Superior Rigging and Erecting Co., a number of our team members have loved ones who are dealing with diabetes every day. We see them dealing with everything this illness brings with it: the many doctor’s appointments, the shots and other medication, and the concern that their condition may get worse.

We want to see this disease eradicated now so that our friends and family members no longer have to suffer. To that end, we are partnering with the American Diabetes Association to raise money for diabetes research and are participating in the OUC Orlando Half Marathon & Track Shack Lake Eola 5K. This event will be held on December 2, 2017.

It may be months before the actual run, but we want to get a head start on raising pledges for the ADA. You can join our team and participate if you’re local, and if you’re not, you can support us by making a donation via our team page.

Join our team and make a donation at: http://main.diabetes.org/site/TR?team_id=738865&fr_id=11965&pg=team

Sign up for the race here:

We hope you’ll join us in December in supporting the ADA and their goal of defeating diabetes through research and education. Please invite your friends and family members to the event and share our team page. With your support, we can truly make a difference and change the lives of those who are dealing with diabetes every day. Together, we can do it!

The Superior Rigging & Erecting Co. Values

Every company has a set of values it follows in order to provide outstanding service, and Superior Rigging & Erecting Co. is no different. We have a set of values that we have summed up in our promise to all of our customers. We know that we’ve earned our reputation by holding true to these values in our many years of service. Upholding that reputation is important to us, which is why we make this promise to everyone we work with: We promise close communication, extraordinary efficiency and technical excellence in every aspect of the project.

Servant Leadership

We believe that all leaders should be servants first. By following this philosophy, we are able to build a better organization, enrich the lives of everyone we work with, and contribute towards the creation of a more caring world. We believe servant leadership isn’t something you engage in periodically. It’s something you practice every day.

We take our social responsibility very seriously, which is why we support a number of local and national nonprofits. We put the needs of others—customers, neighbors, employees—ahead of our own, working to ensure that everyone has access to basic needs and the chance to grow and develop.

Flexibility

Another one of our values is flexibility. We understand despite the best-laid plans, things can go wrong – a natural disaster, days of rain, or a myriad of other issues can affect your project. We create a blueprint to follow, but we always make certain that flexibility is built in. This allows us to pull in different resources to continue working whenever possible.

Be Straightforward

Communication is vital in everything, but it’s especially important in the projects we do. We understand that communicating the truth breeds comfort, understanding, and value. We communicate everything to our clients in a no-nonsense, straightforward way. The outcome of every project we work on belongs to the client, and if they aren’t happy with it, we’ve done something wrong. By clearly communicating the project status every step of the way, we ensure that doesn’t happen.

Honesty and Integrity

We believe in full honesty and integrity in everything we do, no matter how large or small the project is. By leveraging our experience and training, we’re able to create a blueprint for every project that will make efficient use of resources and time. With the versatility our large equipment fleet provides us, we’re able to quickly respond to every customer’s needs and to any unexpected situations.
